When Every Moment Matters

A few weeks ago, I found out that a good friend of mine had developed a tumor near the bottom of her spine.

For years, she had experienced unexplained pain in her lower back. Like so many of us probably would, she attributed it to other things. Cancer wasn't what she expected.

When doctors finally performed an MRI, they discovered a tumor. It was too large to surgically remove as it was, but without removing it, the tumor would continue to grow.

It had to come out.

For several weeks, her doctors worked to determine the best way forward. The plan became chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking the tumor enough that it could eventually be surgically removed.

For her and her family, every day counts.

I saw her the other day for the first time since learning about her diagnosis. She had just received her first chemotherapy treatment.

She looked so tired and sick.

Seeing her like that was hard for me.

I have been blessed with many amazing women in my life, and she is one of them. She is a remarkable woman—someone I admire, look up to, and love.

And suddenly, cancer had entered her life and the lives of everyone who loves her.

How many of you know someone—or know a family—going through something similar?

If you do, then you probably understand just how quickly our perspective on time can change.

Days matter.

Ordinary moments matter.

Sitting together matters.

Laughing together matters.

Birthdays, dinners, sporting events, family trips, conversations, and quiet evenings at home suddenly mean so much more.

And perhaps you have found yourself asking the same question I have:

What can I do?

That question is one reason Golden Moments exists.

Golden Moments was created because I learned through my friendship with Goldie that some of life's greatest gifts aren't things at all.

They are moments.

They are experiences shared with the people we love.

They are memories our children and families can carry with them long after the moment itself has passed.

Golden Moments helps families facing cancer create meaningful moments together during an incredibly difficult season of life.

There are two ways you can help.

You can give through Golden Moments. One hundred percent of monetary donations made through our official Huntsman Cancer Foundation fundraising page are tax-deductible and are processed directly through Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Donors receive a receipt from Huntsman for their contribution, and the funds support families facing cancer and help create meaningful moments together.

You can also help simply by becoming part of this community.

Share your experiences.

Tell us about the people who have inspired you.

Tell us about the moments that mattered to your family.

Tell us what helped you endure a difficult season or how someone else helped you find joy in the middle of one.

My hope is that Golden Moments becomes more than a place to give. I hope it becomes a community where we remind one another to live, love, serve, and create memories—even during life's hardest seasons.

My friend's story is still being written.

Hope lies ahead, and I am praying that her treatments work and that she has many, many years and Golden Moments still to come.

But seeing her reminded me of something I never want to forget:

We don't have to wait for cancer—or any other trial—to recognize the value of the people and moments already in our lives.

Live with purpose.

Love the people around you.

Create the moments you want to remember.

And when you have the opportunity, help someone else create theirs.

Because in the end, the moments really do matter most.

Thank you for supporting Golden Moments.
