A Moment on Myrtle Street

There’s a stretch of road in Boise, Idaho, I will never drive past the same way again.

At first glance, it’s just another street—right in front of Julia Davis Park, not far from Boise State.

But for me, it holds something more.

It holds a moment.

In the fall of 2020, I stood there with my best friend, Goldie, and her family.  We were waiting for the BYU football team to drive by on their way to the stadium.

Her boys, Tate and Payden, were full of excitement—Tate proudly wearing BYU,Payden loyal to Boise State with his hat.

They just wanted a glimpse of the team. We stood with a crowd of fans lining the road, all watching down the street, waiting.

And then the buses came.

(This is that moment.)

Goldie is right there—smiling, laughing, cheering with her kids.

They flew past us as we cheered.

I can still see Goldie in that moment—

smiling,laughing,watching her boys.

She looked so good.

She had her hair. She was in between chemotherapy treatments. And for that moment—

she was just a mom, standing with her kids, creating a memory.

Her youngest, Summer, was only eight months old. Autumn stood nearby, cheering with her brothers.

It was simple.

But it was everything.

A moment her children will carry forever.

Just three months later, we lost her.

But this is what I know—

Her children will never forget that moment.

Standing there.

Cheering together.

Watching the buses go by with their mom beside them.

And I won’t forget it either.

Even now, every time I drive past that stretch of road,

I still see them—

a small family standing together,

waving,

laughing,

holding onto a moment they didn’t know would matter so much.

And that’s what this is about.

Moments like this don’t seem big at the time.

But they become the ones that last forever.

Golden Moments exists to help create more of them—

for families who are walking through cancer,

for parents who are fighting for time,

for children who will one day hold onto memories like this.

Because sometimes,

a simple moment

becomes everything.

A simple moment like this can become everything.
